Naomi Higginson

Naomi Higginson is a Senior Associate and works across the Advanced Engineering group with a focus on chemical, mechanical and process engineering technologies, particularly within the clean technology space. Her work centres on improving the efficiency and sustainability of industrial processes, including developments in carbon capture, hydrogen production and storage, recycling technologies (such as plastics and metals recycling), and wastewater and reaction effluent treatment. She also has experience in related areas such as wind energy systems, automotive technologies and low‑carbon transport solutions.

Education & background

Naomi qualified as a European and UK Patent Attorney in 2023, achieving the highest mark in the UK in the Infringement and Validity examination and being awarded the Ballantyne Prize from the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys. She has a first class MEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester and prior industrial experience in process engineering in the nuclear sector.

Naomi supports a diverse client base, ranging from multinational corporations to start‑ups and academic institutions. She has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications across the UK and Europe, as well as managing global portfolios and coordinating with international counsel. Naomi has experience leading invention harvesting programmes for key clients, resulting in a significant expansion of patent filings in targeted technology areas. In addition, she regularly advises on freedom to operate, particularly for early‑stage companies seeking to support investment or commercialisation strategies. Naomi also has experience assisting with contentious matters, including ongoing litigation, giving her a well‑rounded view of both prosecution and enforcement.

On a personal note…

Naomi enjoys watching football as a devoted Manchester City fan, walking her dog and running (at a fairly leisurely pace). She also enjoys playing the piano and has a passion for travel and learning to cook the local cuisines of the countries she visits.
