In addition, our new location
in Munich helps us to have a
deeper involvement in driving
and shaping the evolution of the
patent system throughout Europe
at a time of considerable change,
through regular interaction with
the EPO and the EPI.
Our presence in Munich
represents an excellent
opportunity for the firm to
stay one step ahead of the
forthcoming changes to the
patent system. This will translate
into even better quality services
for our clients. The move will give
us closer control of client work
in Germany at a critical time of
evolution for the patent system
in Europe. It also means we
can stay in close contact with
the EPO and the EPI, both based
in Munich.
In the short time since the office
in Munich opened, a number
of our clients have asked us to
handle their German patent
filing and prosecution work,
and we are already seeking
to expand our team there in
anticipation of increased levels
of work. We look forward to
being of further assistance to
our clients as the European
patent system develops in the
years to come.
News
As well as our new Munich
office, there have been
some other significant
developments at Withers
& Rogers over the last
few months.
Our Sheffield office
continues to go from
strength to strength.
Life Sciences & Chemistry
partner Joanna Thurston
relocated there in October
2014, so the office can
now offer patent expertise
across the full spectrum of
technical fields. The office
has grown from just two
partners when it opened
in September 2009 to a
total of 12 fee earners now,
which is testament to the
expertise, dedication and
commitment of all involved.
Our Contentious Practice
Group has been boosted
by Electronics, Computing
& Physics partner Matthew
Howell’s qualification in
November 2014 as a Patent
Attorney Litigator. Withers &
Rogers is already one of the
most active firms of patent
attorneys at the Intellectual
Property Enterprise Court,
and Matthew’s qualification
increases our capacity for
this type of contentious
work. Our growing
Contentious Practice
Group also puts us in a
strong position to be able
to act for our clients at the
much anticipated Unified
Patent Court when it
opens for business.
“The opening of our office in Munich
has been a great success both for
Withers & Rogers and Fleuchaus &
Gallo. Clients clearly have a desire to
pursue national patent protection
before the UK and German patent
offices rather than before the EPO. Our
collaboration with Fleuchaus & Gallo
enables us to provide a seamless and
cost-effective process for obtaining
patent protection in both countries.”
